EXPERIENCE SUSSEX ERTHA

ertha: Old English, from the Anglo-Saxon
erda, meaning soil or ground

TYLER'S GROUND IS ON A SMALL ESTATE HIGH IN THE SUSSEX WEALD REVIVING THE TRADITIONS OF THE SOUTH SAXONS; ECO-HARMONIOUS FARMING WITH GENTLE CULTIVATION OF THE IRON-RICH GROUND.

CULTIVATION

nourishing

At Tyler's Ground higher yields and efficiency are not the priority. Slow growth, low chemical use and local supply mean that produce can be very fresh, healthy and flavourful.

CONSERVATION

nurturing

Tyler's Ground respects the land and soil, and seeks to cohabit sustainably with native flora and fauna, recognising that this is healthy for long-term viability. There are a number of projects on the estate purposing intelligent conservation, for example, to establish both forage and nesting sites for insects and birds.

RESOURCES

sustainable

Tyler's Ground always looks to increase use of indigenous and local resources, reducing external inputs and imports, whether that be timber, compost, animal feed or seeds.

Where possible, Tyler's Ground reuses and recycles spent products and resources, reducing pressure on manufacturing, transport and final waste management.

RENEWABLES

self-sufficient

Rain harvesting and power generation on-site enable the supply of water and energy to be more resilient and renewable. Moving towards independence of supply also reduces pressure on reservoirs and the power grid.

Building the farm's storage system means that plants can be sustained with rain water throughout the year, while a large PV array takes advantage of the area's high annual sunlight hours, to generate around 30MWh each year.
